3rd Quarter 2009: Results

Woking’s Chet Morjaria topped the Brits with a Left hand Dead Lift of 135 kg at a B Wt of 66.8.

Brian Hamill was down in about 27th place but bettered Jeff Fearon, another over 70 regular. Woking remain top club. Woking Power are 3rd in the club rankings.

To liven the scheme up, Brian has persuaded Tony Cook of the Strength Athletes’ Guild to add performances in their schemes.

Up pops Sam Dube, a Canadian medical student in the World rankings at number one with Chet relegated to 3rd in the globe! James Register, also from Woking, ranked 4th world wide. These rankings use a formula, the Lynch, which may be fairer than the simple % of bodyweight we use.

The current Lift of the Quarter is the two hands Clean and Press with barbell. I have been told that a bunch of Devon Powerlifters will be joining in. My money is on one of the Chea brothers winning, and that Chris Chea will be Britain’s Best All Rounder for 2009. Who says Woking lifters are all technique and no strength!

All-Round Lifting.

(Info to club secretaries and their members)

It is possible that most club members are not aware of, or don't know much about all-round Lifting (or the Odd Lifts as they are usally called.) Weight lifters tend to concentrate on Olympic or Power movements. But there are also 27 Odd Lifts you can try! There are Divisional Records to aim for (not many claimed) which need only one ref (who should be a Fully Qualified referee) to witness and British Records (needing three refs one of whom at least must be FQ). British records are kept by Jim Smith, of Longwood House, Standlake, Witney, Oxon, OX8 7RP, email : silentsmith@talk21.com
(Fully qualified refs are people who have passed the exam on ALL aspects of lifting not just on Olympic or Power)

Why not have a go? The division wants to encourage participation in these lifts. There are 10 bodyweight categories: 52, 56, 60, 67.5, 75, 82.5, 90, 100, 110, 110+. Age categories as in other lifting: Junior, Senior, Master, (over 40, over 50, over 60,over 70+) these 27 deserve to be tried since records remain to be set up and they also provide a good bodybuiling routine as well. Try them, (or one of them) and if interested in having your name in the record books, get in touch with Brian Hamill and he will give you any futher info you want. Certificates are awarded as proof of your prowess. The lifts are open to females also. You need of course to be a member of BWLA. The SE Div, Sec is Brian Hamill at: brianhamill59@googlemail.com
Address : 36 Rowtown, Addleston, Weybridge, Surrey.

The lifts are:

The rules for correct performance are given in the current handbook - or see Brian Hamill. Like all BWLA lifts, the All-Round lifts are governed by bodyweight.

HAPPY LIFTING!

The minimum acceptable poundages are based on the Certificate of Merit scheme in the BWLA Handbook. (The sixth grade) In addition one kilo less than the above is acceptable for over 50s, two kilos for over 60s and three kilos for over 70s. Female standards are about 20% less.
NB: refs will need to know the rules for correct performance - it is possible refs qualified only in O or PL lifting may not know these. But let Brian Hamill know if there are any difficulties over refs.
Certificates, etc. will be issued free.
