New Facility in Kent

We have a new facility in Kent in Eridge near Tunbridge Wells where Mike Paige is progressing his Olympic lifting. I am sure other lifters will be welcome. Contact Mike on mpfitness_uk@yahoo.co.uk - I hope enough of you join in to make it while for Mike to affiliate a club to the SECWLA.

_____

Postal Clean and Jerk

The Postal Clean and Jerk contest has gone better this year with 1145 entries, 39% up on last year. Who says Olympic lifting is on the decline? The Woking club is bursting at the seams. Thanks to all SE clubs who supported this. I will soon have the computer analysis and start sending out medals and certificates, plus invitations to Britain's Most Powerful Youth event on October 3rd.

Get next year's entry forms from me, now.

All who aim for inclusion in the Commonwealth Games 3-14 Oct 2010 in India MUST be on the Drug Test Pool (NRTP) from May 1 this year. For full details of how to get into this pool of lifters you need a form which was sent to your club secretary in February This does not mean that you must already have reached the Qualifying total

If you cannot get a copy from him or her please ask BWLA to provide one to you. The form you need is the one issued by Steve Cannon on 21/2/09 in which you can declare your wish to be considered. On the reverse of the form is a list telling you how you must comply with the BWLA anti doping rules

Contact BWLA at BWLA; Lilleshall National Sports Centre; nr. Newport; Shropshire; TF10 9AT or 01952 604201

SE Council News

______

The council wishes good fortune to the departing Powerlifters. Please note that the BWLA will still be the home of the Paralympic (disabled) Powerlifters and will continue to receive funding for this from Sport UK. The recent successful negotiation with Sport England has brought support of £609,000 for the BWLA 4 year plan. Most of this will be devoted to supporting grass roots Weightlifting.

Most of the bank balance of the SE has come from courses run by and taught by Olympic Weightlifters. The greatest expenditure from that reserve has been on equipment for Powerlifting clubs. It is most likely that the equipment will be left with those clubs though discussions are continuing on whether or not the departing Powerlifters will pay a small rent over the next few years in order to have the use and retention of that equipment.

Negotiations are also continuing to decide if the Powerlifters will be granted a share of the SE counties bank account. The BWLA has taken legal advice and determined that all funds and equipment ultimately are BWLA property. None of it can be allocated to the Powerlifters without BWLA agreement. The SE Council is attempting to clarify this further.
